Mediaset Tunes Into Cisco Systems for Next-Generation TV Production Network
Overview Mediaset Group is the first commercial broadcaster in Italy and one of the major media companies at European level. The Group's main company, Mediaset Spa, is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange since July 1996. Its three proprietary tv channels Canale 5, Italia 1 and Retequattro are managed by RTI Spa, 100%-owned by Mediaset Spa. Cisco Systems, Inc. along with Mediaset deployed an optical network from Cisco to connect its branch offices across the Rome metropolitan area and to help provide the business with a next-generation production network. The new fibre optic network, based on Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical technology, will help remove some of the bottlenecks and weather-based transmission issues experienced with the microwave radio-based links it replaces.
