VoIP - IP Telephony White Papers

Using VoIP to Keep Corporate Travelers Connected to Their Desktops

Overview To keep employees connected to their teams when they travel, Intel engineers created a pilot program to investigate a "Soft phone" solution that lets employees use their telephone extensions over the Internet. Traveling employees are often disconnected from their peers and workgroups, which impacts their effectiveness as well as the effectiveness of the teams with which they work. The resulting loss of communication can impact work schedules and performance and may even cause project delays. The solution required an intense analysis of how employees might use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to connect to their offices and of the technical limitations of that connection.
