High Availability White Papers

White Paper : Network Node Manager 7.x and MC/ServiceGuard

Overview The purpose of this paper is to present the issues and methodology for improving the availability of network management using Hewlett-Packard's OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) together with MC/ServiceGuard. Two approaches are provided for implementation: a MxN setup and conventional setup. The primary goal from an HP perspective is to increase the availability of mission critical applications when compared to standard availability, but to do so at a reasonable cost. The conditions under which it was possible to have a corrupted NNM database will exist in the new configuration with MC/ServiceGuard. While a system crash will force the migration of the NNM processes to the surviving system, the crash can still potentially corrupt an NNM database.
