Novell's Identity Assurance Solution for HSPD-12

Overview In August 2004, as part of ongoing efforts to heighten resource protection within government agencies, President Bush issued Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12). HSPD-12 directed the Secretary of Commerce to establish a policy for a common identification standard for all federal employees and contractors, and to do so within six months. By establishing a standard for secure identification, the intent of the directive is to protect against a wide array of threats, including unauthorized access to government resources, terrorism and identity theft. Implementations based on the standard will grant federal government employees and contractors secure access to both logical systems and physical facilities.
