Overview This paper discusses the need for securing the communications of mobile applications and describes a simple way to do so. For Internet protocols that operate in the clear, like Telnet, encryption is a must. Bearing in mind the need for host authentication and signed certificates, TLS/SSL provides a quick and easy way to transmit encrypted data using almost any Internet protocol. Even better, it's a standard part of the MIDP 2.0 platform, the device permitting, opening the door to a wide range of secure network applications running on mobile devices.
