Automated Storage Provisioning for Windows Using TotalStorage Productivity Center and Tivoli Provisioning Manager

Overview The provisioning of SAN attached storage capacity to a server can be a time consuming and cumbersome process. The task requires skilled storage administrators. However, there is a solution to this through automation. This paper looks at how an automated storage provisioning solution can be realized for a Windows environment using IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center 3.1 (TPC) and IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager 3.1 (TPM). Together with provisioning workflows, these two products provide a complete solution to the automated end-to-end provisioning of usable storage capacity on the Windows platform. As implemented for the Windows platform, this paper describes the solution for the automated provisioning of SAN attached storage capacity on the IBM storage devices supported by IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center 3.1.
