The Real Cost of Protecting Investment in IT
Overview In making a decision to purchase or to invest, it is important to measure the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in order to predict how the investment will be paid back. In the case of a data centre, the individual cost factors involved in protecting the investment include the necessary infrastructure for providing power, cooling and IT equipment protection. A methodology for determining TCO (excluding that of the IT equipment itself) is illustrated by considering the cost factors of a UPS system investment for a data centre with an 80kVA load requirement. It is assumed that 100 percent of the 80kVA load is required.
