Enterprise-Class Data Integration With a Service-Oriented Architecture: Enhancing Connectivity and Responsiveness While Reducing IT Costs

Overview To meet constantly changing business requirements while keeping a tight rein on costs, organizations seek to leverage their existing siloed applications through integration. Historically, organizations have performed integration using proprietary protocols requiring cumbersome application connectivity - even hand coding. Such "Tightly coupled" solutions make it difficult for applications to adapt to changing business requirements because each modification to one application may force developers to make changes to other connected applications. Organizations are now turning to Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) based on Web services to make existing applications, components, and data available for reuse, and to simplify the consumption of these reusable assets.
