Austrian TV Station Moves to Tapeless Environment With Quantum SDLT 600A
Overview Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, ATV is Austria's largest and only national commercial broadcaster and the first privately owned domestic rival to the Austrian state-owned television stations, ORF1 and ORF2. One of ATV's key challenges was to safely and reliably archive its workgroup content in its tapeless environment. What it needed was a backup system that could handle MXF files, which have become essential to its workflow. As a solution the SDLT 600A uses Super DLTtape II, which enables ATV to store key MXF metadata in a tape-based file system directory at the beginning of each tape. ATV now has video tape-like access to sub-clips by timecode.
