City of Onkaparinga Reaps Rewards From IBM Global Financing

Overview In July 1997, three councils merged to form South Australia's largest local government organisation. City of Onkaparinga was formed by amalgamation of the former Cities of Happy Valley and Noarlunga and part of the District Council of Willunga. The new entity was faced with a major business challenge. The new city's IT department wanted to deliver a platform that would provide a consistent level of service throughout the newly created organisation without placing an onerous financial burden on the council's budget. After examining a range of financing options, City of Onkaparinga went to the market to lease about 180 personal computers as its preferred technology acquisition model. IBM Global Financing offered a leasing arrangement that was more attractive than buying.
