GKNM Hospital Revives Data Management

Overview Founded in 1952, G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial (GKNM) Hospital is a 500-bed Super Specialty hospital and tertiary center in Coimbatore, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu state in southern India. The company wanted to scale to accommodate forecast growth in data volumes from 2002 until upgrade is completed and maintain high standards of data integrity at database and table level to comply with stringent medical requirements. The challenge was to stay within the information technology budget afforded to the medical institution and provide a pathway for migration to an upgraded database environment with improved functionality. The company implemented Oracle9i Database Enterprise Edition after evaluating Ingres and Microsoft SQL Server and ensured data was managed in a robust, scalable, easy-to-manage, and affordable environment.
