System Support for Small-Scale Auctions
Overview Mobile wireless computing devices provide interesting opportunities for building new styles of interactive applications by exploiting ad hoc networks. The basic networking technology needed to support such applications is readily available. The paper describes the design and implementation of a small scale auction application in an ad hoc network. It is important to develop a variety of interactive applications using ad hoc networks in order to understand what functionality can suitably be incorporated in the mobile computing middleware. In the case of this particular auction application, the paper describes how an application specific ad hoc network can be formed and maintained in an economical manner.
