Comparing RAID-0 Performance on Linux and Windows XP

Overview This research applies an experimental benchmarking tool to compare the RAID-0 performance of two prominent operating systems: Red Hat 9 Linux 2.4.20.6, and Windows XP Professional. A common benchmarking tool with identical test cases was run on both operating systems using an identical state-of-the-art system setup. A specific block and stripe size of 64KB was tested on various load sizes. Access and transaction types were applied in the experiment as follows: sizes smaller, exactly, and larger than stripe size, all reads/writes, even mix of reads/writes, majority reads, majority writes, and sequential, random and even mix of random and sequential accesses.
