Fire Department Gets Information Access on the Front Line

Overview For the fire department of the Technical University Munich (TUM), the many different chemicals handled at the university pose an added threat to the normal course of duty. To optimize their response to a call, firefighters need the most up-to-date information about a building that sets off an alarm. However, they had access only to the information that they carried in bulky paper folders. By deploying Tablet PCs running on the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, the fire department at TUM gained a powerful mobile computing solution that delivers wireless access to the most current information in the department's back office systems.
