Windows XP Security Tool Helps Community Group Save Time and Reach More Students
Overview The Council for World-Class Communities (CWCC) promotes community development in Southwest Michigan. One of the organization's community service programs, Bridges to Digital Excellence (BDE), provides training to students on donated shared computers. By mid-2005, managing and maintaining these computers, including removing spyware and restoring configuration settings, had become a difficult and time-consuming task for the few IT resources at BDE. To safeguard its shared computers, in September 2005 BDE deployed the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP. Now, the computers are protected from unauthorized changes because disk changes are cleared each time the computers are restarted, making them more reliable and more available to students. BDE staffers also spend less time on troubleshooting and more time helping students learn critical computer skills.
