Understanding Mobile Phone EMI in the Hospital Setting

Overview As technology continues to evolve, the benefits of wireless communications for healthcare providers become greater and more evident. Every day, physicians and nurses are faced with a daunting number of complex tasks, many of which involve making quick decisions that affect the health and lives of their patients - rapid communications and access to information are indispensable tools for their jobs. However, concerns about ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) have led many hospitals to ban mobile phones outright. Though it is true that EMI can, in certain cases, disrupt sensitive medical equipment, this disruption is often negligible and is constantly being reduced as technology advances and manufacturers shield their products from EMI.
