CVS: Collaborative Voting System to Detect Routing Misbehavior in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Overview In multi-hop ad hoc networks, routing (forwarding) information is one of the important tasks of sensor nodes. Most of the proposed routing protocols were not designed considering security as a goal. Some approaches like Marti et al's watchdog and pathrater were good starting point for research in detecting misbehaving nodes. But it had many weaknesses. This paper discusses all these weaknesses in watchdog mechanism proposed by [MGLB00] and also considers various insider attacks discussed by Ning et al in [NS03] and proposes a collaborative voting system to detect routing misbehavior in wireless ad hoc sensor networks.
