Data Technologies in 3G Access Networks: Meeting the Demand for New Mobile Services

Overview Service providers are moving toward a model where anything that can be performed on a current IP network today, can be performed on a 3G wireless network. Data is being driven into all aspects of mobile networks. For most mobile operators this means moving away from running packet-switched services over Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) networks, and running data over an efficient and cost effective data-focused infrastructure. By sharing resources between multiple access networks (2G, 2.5G, 3G), over a single transport infrastructure, both CAPital EXpenditure (CAPEX) and OPerating EXpense (OPEX) are reduced.
