On-Demand Routing Protocol Performance Evaluation for Conversational Services in Mobile Multihop Ad Hoc Wireless Networks
Overview The design of routing protocols for mobile multihop ad hoc wireless networks is one of the most important research areas due to environmental impairments. Although several routing protocols have been proposed, there are many open issues. Provision of routing capabilities for real time conversational communications, such as audio and video, is one of them. The work discussed in this paper compares two well known protocols widely used as reference: Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing Protocol (DSR). The results show that none of them can handle real time conversational traffic. The paper tested both protocols with two widely used simulators, Network Simulator and GloMoSim.
