Make the Microsoft .NET Framework Real

Overview Developers face a series of choices when deciding how to build enterprise applications. This includes the choice of operating platform, database server, middleware architecture and much more besides. Research indicates that as the Microsoft .NET Framework matures, and developers become more familiar with the architecture, the rate of adoption will increase. As well, most organizations that create applications for the Microsoft .NET Framework must integrate the systems with applications that run on other platforms. Yet Microsoft's own technology for .NET is focused on Microsoft technology and does not address all of the requirements for enterprise development. This paper reviews the strengths of the Microsoft .NET Framework and explores how to take advantage of .NET while minimizing risks and preserving the existing investments in technology.
