Intelligent Storage Provisioning for UNIX and LINUX Environments

Overview Storage provisioning is the process used to provide appropriate storage capacity to applications. Intelligent Storage Provisioning (ISP) is a feature of the VERITAS Storage Foundation product family that allows application volumes to be created from disks1 that meet installation-specified criteria. Provisioning block storage capacity involves configuring physical storage devices, ensuring that appropriate hosts have connectivity to these devices, aggregating storage capacity into volumes, and providing a method for applications to store and retrieve data on these volumes, such as through a file system. This paper discusses how to establish and enforce installation-defined standards related to the third step, aggregating storage capacity into volumes.
