Real-Time Embedded Computers Help Maximize Gym Workouts

Overview As a leading provider of exercise equipment, Life Fitness wanted to develop a next generation electronic "Brain" that could receive personalized workout settings, monitor user performance, provide real-time coaching, and enable a higher level of interaction. Technical requirements included high-performance graphics for video and animations, a familiar development environment for fast time to market, real-time multitasking for built-in sensors and device drivers for wireless mesh network components. Life Fitness turned to Applied Data Systems for a single-board computer system running the Windows Embedded CE operating system. The result is VIVO - the fitness industry's first virtual training system that connects Life Fitness equipment, trainers, and users via an integrated wireless information network.
