Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5100 Series Makes Energy-Efficient Datacentre a Reality
Overview To keep pace with its growth, Host Europe needed to significantly increase the capacity and power of its server infrastructure housed in its datacentres in Cologne, Germany. However, as an ISP, Host Europe spends significant sums of money on energy supply and datacentre space. Dell supplied a Dell PowerEdge 1950 server powered by two Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors 5100 series and performance was compared to Dell PowerEdge 1850 server powered by two single-core Intel Xeon processors. Using SpamAssassin as the mail filter, Exim as the message transfer agent and Debian GNU/ Linux 3.1 operating system, Host Europe tested the speed with which the servers could perform spam and virus checking on incoming emails.
