Scientists to Share Open Source Data Management App

Overview The head of the Joint Australian Facility for Ocean Observing Systems (Jafoos) said legacy SGI systems were hampering the QUality Evaluation of Subsurface Temperatures (Quest) data management application. SGIs were very old and slow which limited what they can do with data management. In an effort to break away from proprietary computer systems, the Jafoos started rewriting its Quest data management application in Java. A platform independent Quest will allow Jafoos to migrate to commodity hardware running Linux for its data analysis work.
