Airtel Sets Up India's Largest Televoting Backbone on Enterprise Linux

Overview Airtel is India's largest GSM service provider, with a footprint that covers all telecom circles in the country. The company wanted to design a failproof televoting system to manage millions of SMSes and servers to conform to a peak load requirement in excess of 4000 messages per second. The company also wanted to ensure faster processing of votes and eliminate any window for performance delays and build a system that can handle highly volatile SMS traffic. To solve this Airtel chose Enterprise Linux which runs on low cost, on dual Intel Xeon servers.
