Performance of NLOS OFDM Broadband Fixed Wireless Access Systems With Concatenated FEC Coding
Overview The challenge for new generation broadband fixed wireless access systems, typically operating in Non Line Of Sight (NLOS) conditions, lies in providing high data rate and reliable transmission. The adoption of OFDM modulation combined with a powerful channel coding technique represents an attractive solution to counteract the severe NLOS channel impairments. The aim of this paper is the performance evaluation of different combinations of digital modulation (QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM) and channel coding schemes under NLOS channel conditions. The considered channel coding consists of concatenated Reed- Solomon and Convolutional Code followed by block interleaving and adopts the code rates and bit interleaver block sizes of the different modulation and coding options specified for the IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN-OFDM PHY.
