Comparison of Several FEC Schemes for Wireless OFDM Transmission on Frequency Selective Channels
Overview This paper compares performances of several coding schemes including Convolutional Codes (CC), Binary Turbo Codes (TC) and Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation (TTCM) for an OFDM modulated transmission over a frequency selective fading channel. The codes under consideration are designed to be compatible with the Hiperlan II WLAN system specifications in terms of coding rate, block size and allowed decoding latency. The authors first test the considered codes with a Gaussian channel model (AWGN); then, it considers the stochastic channel model specified by ETSI to simulate a frequency selective channel corresponding to a typical office environment. The paper concludes, regarding Bit Error Rate (BER) performance simulation results, that TC and TTCM offer significant performance improvement for WLAN.
