Whitfield School Earns High Grades for Lower-Cost 1:1 Laptop Computing Model

Overview Whitfield School, a small, private school in Missouri, used open-source technologies and laptop computers to overcome the obstacles. The school wanted to enrich the educational environment and familiarize students with new technologies, while making high-performance, 1:1 computing easier and more affordable for schools to implement. To tackle this situation the school equipped students with Lenovo ThinkPad laptop computers utilizing a SUSE Linux-based, open-source platform. The school provided Windows functions through a centralized Citrix solution running on IBM servers and evaluated and documented pedagogical improvements and cost savings with IBM Proof of Concept study.
