Novell Case Study: Free Record Shop

Overview Founded as a single independent store in 1971, Free Record Shop has more than 400 retail outlets in the Benelux region, Norway and Finland, including a number operating under the Van Leest brand. The challenge was to find a new platform that would be advanced enough to support the desired functionality, but which would not require expensive hardware upgrades. To solve this Free Record Shop looked at several alternatives before choosing to move to Novell Linux Desktop. Linux was the ideal platform because of its security and reliability, and because the company's existing POS application was UNIX-based and could be easily ported to the new operating system.
