Distributed Ordering Application Makes Franchise More Efficient

Overview Budget Blinds is one of the fastest growing franchise-based systems in the United States, with over 800 independently-owned franchises and a 40 percent growth rate. Its primary focus is on providing custom window coverings, including blinds, shutters, shades and draperies. Budget Blinds had a desktop application written in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and distributed on CD-ROM. The company had deployment issues and upgrade issues. With the help of partner HarborObjects, Budget Blinds built a distributed system accessible from the Web and from an intermittently connected client, using Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The new system presents a unified user interface, and connects with Intuit QuickBooks, Microsoft Great Plains, and with third party manufacturers using Microsoft BizTalk Server.
