Disaster Averted During Server Migration Through Use of Virtual Technology

Overview Barker's Inc. sells and services John Deere equipment throughout the Southwestern Iowa region. It has two applications that provide core business processes: a parts application and a server running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. It planned to improve server capacity and server throughput by realigning its servers and performing modest hardware upgrades. During the multi-stage migration process, the server running Exchange 2000 Server suffered a complete hardware failure - and server backups proved unrecoverable. Thanks to prior planning and server imaging using Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 and the Virtual Server Migration Toolkit, a previous image was brought online and service resumed the same day. The balance of the server upgrade and migration was performed with no further problems.
