Language-Based Support for Service Oriented Architectures: Future Directions
Overview The popularity of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) lives on the promise of dynamic IT-supported inter-business collaborations. Yet the programming models in use nowadays are a poor match for the distributed, loosely-coupled, document-based SOA; and the gap widens: interoperability across organizations needs contracts to reduce risks. Thus, high-level contract models are making their way into SOA, but application developers are still left to their own devices when it comes to writing code that will comply with a contract. This paper surveys existing and future directions regarding language-based solutions to the above problem.
