GSM Spectral Efficiency

Overview The deployment of mobile broadband technology in the same licensed radio frequency band as that used for the GSM technology requires innovation in GSM spectral efficiency. Nortel is planning for the next big evolution of mobile broadband deployments. The company can see operators needing to squeeze out 5x2 MHz of their GSM spectrum to offer UMTS/ HSDPA service. Nortel's solutions can help reduce the amount of spectrum needed to operate GSM networks, and also help reduce over 25 percent of the radio hardware costs. Nortel is introducing new solutions that can help achieve savings in the 50 percent range in the near future.
