Computer Retailer Boosts Data Warehouse Performance With Move to 64-Bit Servers

Overview Computer retailer CompUSA uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services cubes to provide a valuable environment for business intelligence queries to help it enhance operations and customer service. But as the company brought more information into its data warehouse, the batch window for processing became an issue. The company also needed better scalability. CompUSA upgraded its warehouse infrastructure with HP servers based on the Intel Itanium 2 64-bit processor and running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (64-bit). The new 64-bit environment provides 700 percent faster cube processing, and with support for up to 64 gigabytes of Random Access Memory (RAM) and 32 processors, it offers CompUSA the scalability for future expansion.
