Load Balancing in MLPS VPN Environments

Overview This paper contains a detailed description of how Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) load balancing is used in MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) Virtual Private Network (VPN) scenarios, some of the advantages and disadvantages of its use, and how to monitor and debug load balancing. This paper also briefly discusses how Cisco Express Forwarding (formerly known as CEF) influences load balancing, and how one can use MPLS Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) tools to find and troubleshoot available paths in the network.
