EMC Scalable Solutions Support 54,000 Mailboxes in Two Consolidated Data Centers

Overview EMC delivers information infrastructure management and storage solutions worldwide. But with 31,000 employees, managing its own e-mail system was no easy task. With decentralized system management, it could take a day to recover e-mail databases for remote offices. And it often took more than six days to retrieve e-mail messages needed for legal purposes. What's more, to replace the company's aging hardware would be costly. Instead, EMC worked with Microsoft Services consultants to deploy Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 in a tiered-storage architecture with EMC integrated hardware and software solutions. Today, the e-mail system can support up to 54,000 mailboxes with only 15 active mailbox server computers in two data centers.
