Overview SMS, MMS and IM capabilities are the key areas which helped the operators through out the years to increase minutes of use and ARPU. Other new value-added services with great potential include entertainment offerings such as games, location-based offerings and m-commerce. All though prepaid has been the new frontier for growth in the wireless industry, still operators suffer from low prepaid revenue and significant churn rates. In Europe, for instance, prepaid users accounted for 64% of the subscriber base, yet prepaid revenue was only one-third of the total. In order to gain profits, operators need to generate up to twice as much revenue from each customer leaving the question will this leave a place for prepaid product in the long term.
