Steel Manufacturer Improves Blast Furnace Performance
Overview As SIDMAR prepared to reline its blast furnace - an endeavor undertaken about every 15 years - the steel manufacturer decided it needed a solution for monitoring and operating its production processes in real time. Any undetected glitch affecting the blast furnace and related production processes could cost the company millions of dollars. The old application, which SIDMAR ran in an Alpha Open VMS-based environment, had reached the end of its product life cycle and offered few of the capabilities that SIDMAR needed to improve efficiency and realize the full profit potential of its new furnace. To get more blast for its buck, SIDMAR chose Windows Server 2003 to provide a state-of-the-art environment for its steel production Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
