Overview This white paper introduces the main trends in phones designed for children by focusing on NTT DoCoMo's SA800i. Phones for children have toy-like designs, limited usage, functions for parents controlling and emergency. The phones include educational games, and emphasize low cost and safety. Most of the phones for children in 2005 were launched in the U.S. but in 2006 NTT DoCoMo in Japan launched a special phone designed for children, SA800i, showing a serious interest in this niche market.
