However, the technology that supported it was struggling with the increased load these additional visitors were placing on it. Working closely with Microsoft and Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Attenda, Reed conducted a benchmarking exercise to compare Microsoft SQL Server 2000, running on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, MySQL running on Windows 2000 Server, and MySQL running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server. After ruling out MySQL and Red Hat, the company compared SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005, ultimately deciding on the latter. The new database infrastructure has reduced total cost of ownership, increased search performance, and enhanced system scalability.
