Library Uses Security Tool to Cut IT Support Time, Focus on Business Growth

Overview The Everett Public Library, located in the city of Everett, Washington, manages two library branches that provide patrons with books, CDs, DVDs, and a range of educational services. The library must carefully manage a limited technology budget, and supports only two full-time IT staff people. These two employees handle IT management and technical support for all 166 PCs in the system. For the past several years, they spent much of their time troubleshooting and trying to protect shared-access computers. The library sought a tool that would ease management and provide better PC protection. In 2005, the library installed the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP, a set of software tools that can be used for free on computers with genuine Windows XP.
