Oracle Voicemail & Fax: A Technical White Paper

Overview Now that economic conditions are much more challenging, companies are reexamining their infrastructure and looking for economies available from consolidation and standardization. Another important factor causing companies to reexamine their infrastructure and processes is the convergence of voice and data networks and applications. While much importance has been given to providing voice services over internet standard networks, this is only one possible application. The potential future impact of using general purpose computing hardware and languages to develop "Telephony" and/or "Converged" systems and networks will be much greater. This paper will review the value proposition for convergence in general and discuss the benefits of data center based applications compared to the proprietary world of telephony.
