Queensland University of Technology Boosts Productivity, Reduces Costs With New System

Overview Queensland University of Technology (QUT) provides industry-leading education to approximately 40,000 students at four campuses across Brisbane. The organization employs approximately 3,500 staff members in nine faculties and five divisions. Wanting to improve communication and collaboration between staff, students, and the outside world, the university decided to update its messaging environment to create a new unified messaging system. QUT deployed Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 with the Unified Messaging server role. Users can access e-mail and voice-mail messages in a variety of ways, and the consolidation of messaging roles into a single system resulted in less administrative effort for the university's IT department. Based on a third-party study, QUT expects to see significant cost savings from the migration of more than A$340,000 (U.S.$262,000).
