The Benefits of Automating a Slap and Ship Operation
Overview While RFID technology certainly has long-term distribution advantages, the most pressing concern is implementing the technology in the short-term. Manually affixing RFID labels, or "Slap and ship," is a commonly used technique because it simply requires the least amount of RFID integration. Unfortunately, this has become a tedious and time-consuming process for many suppliers. This, in general, clumsy process potentially leads to other problems. With RFID tags being much more fragile than traditional barcodes, the increased handling of the tags that occurs with "Slap and ship" may lead to tag malfunctions, something that most companies cannot afford with the current cost of RFID tags.
