Step-by-Step Guide to InfoCard
Overview InfoCard is not the "Son of Passport" that some in the media seem to fear. Passport is a single identity system and, as such, naturally fits into the metasystem as one of many technologies available to InfoCard users. But unlike the old days when Passport was being positioned as the only identity system a person would ever need on the Internet, today Microsoft is proposing a metasystem that allows the user to choose the identity technologies that make sense for her. Passport works well for accessing Microsoft properties like MSN, but as an InfoCard user, that's the only context in which the author will be using Passport.
