Auto-ID Center Working to Drive Down Retail Costs
Overview Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) has been used in tracking and access applications since the 1980s. Today retailers, manufacturers, technology companies, standards organizations, and academia are working with the Auto-ID Center - a nonprofit global research organization created by MIT, UCC/EAN, Gillette, and Procter & Gamble in response to MIT's vision to build the next-generation object/product identification system - to develop standards-based coding systems and technologies that will know where pallets, boxes, and product items are at all times - reducing out-of-stock, shrinkage, and supply chain costs while improving customer and supplier relations.
