University Reduces Costs, Improves Productivity, and Connects Remote Users

Overview The staff and faculty at the University of Houston rely heavily on e-mail to communicate. Because many staff members spend a significant amount of time off campus, to increase productivity and responsiveness, the university needed a faster, more reliable way to connect remote users. To achieve these goals, the university needed to improve its connectivity to provide faster e-mail for remote users; upgrade and standardize its e-mail infrastructure; and create a scalable solution that could eventually provide mobile communications to students. Working with system integrator Avanade, the University of Houston deployed Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 messaging and collaboration client to its 5,000 faculty and staff members, and migrated to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
