Automating the Installation of an FC-Fabric SAN Booted System

Overview In the case study discussed in this paper, a customer deployed and extended the Sun Data Center Reference Architecture to become its Service Delivery Platform. The customer chose a SAN implementation with Brocade SilkWorm 24000 Director Core Fabric Switches and Sun StorEdge 9990 series (based on Hitachi Data Systems' TagmaStorage Universal Storage Platform), with a storage and a management cluster using Sun Fire V440 servers. The target systems for the Proof Of Concept (POC) were two Sun Enterprise 20K servers with three domains each. One of the aims of the POC was to demonstrate automated system provisioning, both for the operating environment and user applications, for example IBM WebSphere.
