Control Risk by Controlling E-mail Content
Overview One of the most effective ways for employers to reduce electronic risks is also one of the simplest. By requiring employees to use appropriate, businesslike language in e-mail and other electronic documents, employers can limit their liability risks and improve the overall effectiveness of the organization's e-communications. Language that is obscene, racist, discriminatory, menacing, harassing, or in any way offensive has no place in the workplace. One should use a written e-mail policy to ban language that could negatively affect an organization's business relationships, damage the corporate reputation, or trigger a lawsuit.
