Database Workloads on Sun Fire Servers With CoolThreads Technology

Overview When running the Oracle database 10g, the Sun Fire T2000 CoolThreads server outperformed an equivalent 4- way Dell PowerEdge server equipped with the latest 64 bit Intel Xeon processors by over 3.5X, while consuming 1.6X less power and occupying 50% of the data center space. The price/performance delivered by the Sun solution was nearly 3X better than Dell. This result demonstrates breakthrough levels of throughput with associated dramatic space and power savings delivered by Sun Fire servers with CoolThreads technology for OLTP database workloads, adding up to a server efficiency rating of over 11X when compared to Xeon-based servers.
